Preview: Barnsley vs. Huddersfield Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Barnsley and Huddersfield Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

It is South Yorkshire versus West Yorkshire in the Championship on Saturday as Barnsley host Huddersfield Town.

Going into the game, the Tykes are 23rd in the table and eight points adrift of safety, while the Terriers are eighth and five points behind the playoffs.

Barnsley got their first point under new manager Poya Asbaghi in a drab 0-0 draw against fellow strugglers Peterborough United last weekend.

It gives them a platform to build on going forward, but Asbaghi's biggest task will be to start getting wins on the board – the Tykes still only have two victories to their name this season and have lost 10 of their last 12 matches.

Scoring is also a major problem. Barnsley have netted just once in their last four games and have recorded only 13 goals across the campaign, the lowest tally in the Championship.

Both of their wins this season have come on home turf, which may give the Oakwell faithful a glimmer of hope.

The Tykes have also won their last three encounters against Huddersfield, with centre-back Michal Helik scoring twice in 2-1 victory in this fixture at Oakwell last season.

Huddersfield make the 20-mile trip having suffered successive defeats at the hands of Queens Park Rangers and Middlesbrough.

It leaves them with one win in their last five matches, a run that has seen them begin to slip away from the playoff picture.

The Terriers have not lost three games in a row since January, but are winless in their last six away matches having only picked up two victories on the road this season.

Carlos Corberan's men are one of only two teams in the Championship with a current goal difference of zero, having scored 23 goals and conceded 23.

Team News

Barnsley will hope to have Callum Brittain and Aaron Leya Iseka back available again after the pair missed the draw with Peterborough through injury and illness respectively.

Leya Iseka is one of only two players in the Tykes squad – along with Cauley Woodrow – to score more than twice this season, so his return would be a huge boost as the team look to score their first goal under Asbaghi.

Jordan Williams was forced off through injury late on against Posh so will be assessed ahead of the weekend.

Huddersfield centre-back Matty Pearson had to be substituted due to injury in the first half of the Terriers' defeat to Middlesbrough last weekend, meaning that he is a doubt for the trip to Oakwell.

Levi Colwill should earn a recall – either in place of Pearson or Naby Sarr – after being rested against Boro.

Josh Koroma and Fraizer Campbell will also be pushing for starts, with Carlos Corberan potentially giving his under-performing attack a shakeup.

Barnsley possible starting lineup:
Collins; Brittain, Andersen, Helik, Kitching; Palmer, Benson, Styles; Leya Iseka, Woodrow, Morris

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Nicholls; Sarr, Lees, Colwill; Thomas, High, O'Brien, Toffolo; Sinani, Ward, Koroma

We say: Barnsley 1-0 Huddersfield Town

A home game against a faltering Huddersfield side could be just the fixture that Poya Asbaghi needs to kick-start his Barnsley reign. Goals are a problem for both of these sides so it should be a low-scoring affair, but we think the hosts might just sneak a victory.
