Lorient edge out Bastia

An own goal from Mathieu Peybernes and a Gilles Sunu strike earns Lorient a 2-0 win over Bastia.

A 2-0 victory has allowed Lorient to climb above fellow strugglers Bastia in the Ligue 1 table.

It was a bright start to the game from hosts, and they threatened to take an early lead when Juan Pablo Pino's strike from the edge of the box was pushed wide by Benjamin Lecomte.

Lorient improved as the first half progressed, and came closest to breaking the deadlock before the interval when Benjamin Jeannot was denied by Alphonse Areola.

The lead belonged to the visitors early in the second half when Jordan Ayew's dangerous cross was inadvertently diverted into the net by Mathieu Peybernes.

Their advantage was doubled just after the hour mark thanks to Gilles Sunu, who collected the influential Ayew's pass before slotting home.

Bastia would struggle to produce a response as Lorient capped off a successful evening in comfortable fashion.
