Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has pulled out of Germany's squad ahead of Wednesday's friendly against France.

Schweinsteiger picked up an ankle injury late on during Bayern's 3-0 win over Mainz in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Despite scoring 25 Bundesliga goals in 2012, Bayer Leverkusen's Stefan Kiessling has been omitted from the squad, with coach Joachim Low keen to experiment with his side.

"Of course we want to get a good result, but this game is a welcome opportunity for us to try something out and maybe see players who have not played regularly for us lately," said Low.

"The focus this year is on qualifying directly for the World Cup.

"Stefan has been with us before and he is not a youngster any more either."

Germany have not beaten France since 1937 and Les Bleus have won four of the last five meetings between the two nations.
