Truth be told, the past five months could not have gone much worse for Blackburn and their boss Steve Kean.
When Venky's took the reigns at the club in late 2010, they promised marquee signings and European football, but as January approaches, the club are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
Here is Sports Mole's assessment of how Rovers have fared so far this campaign.
August
On the face of it, the club seemed quite content with their summer business. Out went the excellent Phil Jones, but the additions of Scott Dann and Yakubu seemed to suggest that success could be ahead.
Their season got off to the worst possible start, however, with successive league defeats to Wolves and Aston Villa. They did advance in the Carling Cup courtesy of a win over Sheffield Wednesday, but the 1-0 loss to Everton at the end of the month made it three defeats from three league games.
September
September started well for the club with a 1-1 draw at Fulham, while the 4-3 victory over Arsenal certainly eased some of the early gloom.
Despite the positive results, it was clear the fans were beginning to turn on the team, however, and although Rovers also advanced to the next round of the Carling Cup, pressure was placed on Kean after the 3-1 league defeat to Newcastle late in the month.
October
Junior Hoilett proved an exciting talent in the early period of the season, but even he could not steer his club to a single league win in October. Rovers were also beginning to pick up defensive injuries, meaning they were having to rely on a series of young players.
A hard-fought point against QPR sandwiched losses to Manchester City and Tottenham in October, although the club continued their cup run with victory over Newcastle.
A hard-fought 3-3 draw with Norwich ended the month, and there were signs that Yakubu would prove an astute signing.
November
By the time November was upon the club, the pressure continued to grow on boss Kean. Fans protested and demanded his resignation, but the Scot continued to lead the team. The month began with a 1-0 loss to Chelsea, but Yakubu's two goals at Wigan secured a point for Rovers before they lost to Stoke late in the month.
The club also exited the Carling Cup to Cardiff, meaning Kean was once again without a victory in November.
There were also suggestions that the Blackburn boss had been offered a new contract, but with no word, or indeed, appearance from Venky's, Kean's future remained very much up in the air.
December
December got off to the best possible start for Blackburn as they hit four against Swansea, with summer signing Yakubu grabbing all the goals.
The high was short-lived, however, after two late goals for Sunderland in Martin O'Neill's first game in charge condemned Blackburn to another loss; while another late goal, this time from Peter Odemwingie, made sure West Brom left Ewood Park with all the points.
The meeting of the bottom two left Kean sweating on his job once more as Bolton claimed a 2-1 win at Ewood, but a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Boxing Day provided some welcome relief, with stand-in goalkeeper Mark Bunn producing a stunning save to deny Andy Carroll late in the match.
