Former Blackpool, Southampton and Preston North End striker Brett Ormerod calls time on his career at the age of 39.

Former Blackpool, Southampton and Preston North End striker Brett Ormerod has announced his retirement from football at the age of 39.

Ormerod, who most recently played for Bamber Bridge in the Evo-Stik Northern First Division North, is best known for his time with Blackpool, where he made over 200 appearances for the club and scored 61 goals.

"At 39 it's time to hang up the boots," Ormerod wrote on his Twitter account. "A big thanks to family and friends and everyone who has supported me, it's been a crazy ride thanks!"

One of Ormerod's 61 Blackpool goals was the winner in the 2010 Championship playoff final against Cardiff.

He earned a runners-up medal with Southampton when they lost the 2003 FA Cup final against Arsenal and also won the FA Trophy with Wrexham in 2013.
