Owen Coyle believes that he has left a team at Bolton Wanderers that is capable of winning the Championship this season.

Former Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has insisted that the club have a squad capable of winning the Championship this season.

Coyle was removed from his post at the Reebok Stadium earlier this month and Crystal Palace confirmed on Tuesday that Dougie Freedman will replace the Scot as manager of the Trotters.

Despite a difficult start to this season, Coyle believes that his team had enough quality to gain promotion to the Premier League.

The former Burnley manager told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I don't want to sound too big-headed here, but I've done all the dirty work.

"The only thing that stopped us this year was real bad luck. It was very simple. But good luck to Dougie. He's a lovely lad. I know him well.

"And if I was a betting man, which obviously I'm not allowed to be, I'd be putting money on Bolton to win the league."

Freedman has yet to begin his new role but Bolton were able to earn a 2-2 draw away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday evening.
