Phil Gartside blasts Gary Cahill red card

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside describes Stuart Attwell's decision to send off Gary Cahill yesterday as a "disgrace".

Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside has criticised referee Stuart Attwell's decision to send off Gary Cahill at White Hart Lane yesterday.

The Trotters were already a goal behind when the England defender saw red for tripping Scott Parker as he broke clear just inside the Bolton half.

"I am not happy about the referee's decision. It's an absolute disgrace," 70-year-old Gartside told BBC Radio Manchester.

"I am the first supporter of referees. My problem is that [the decision] was too quick.

"Scott Parker is one of my favourite players but if he is in a goalscoring position near the halfway line then he is a genius."

Even opposing manager Harry Redknapp, whose side went on to record their sixth consecutive victory with a 3-0 success, said he was "surprised" by the decision.
