Bolton Wanderers allow Adam le Fondre to pursue "opportunity of a lifetime"

Bolton Wanderers announce that Adam le Fondre has left the club after being presented with an "opportunity of a lifetime" by an overseas club, believed to be Sydney FC.

Bolton Wanderers have allowed Adam le Fondre to leave the club after the striker was presented with "an opportunity of a lifetime" overseas.

The 31-year-old joined the Trotters permanently in June 2017 after two loan spells and scored seven goals last term, helping the club avoid relegation from the Championship on the final day.

News of Le Fondre's departure from the Macron Stadium was announced midway through Bolton's 2-1 defeat at Leeds United in the first round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

"Adam le Fondre has been given permission by Bolton Wanderers Football Club to speak with a club overseas regarding a possible transfer after being presented with an 'opportunity of a lifetime'," read a statement.

"The striker, who has not featured in Wanderers' Carabao Cup squad at Leeds United... has expressed a strong desire to take on this new challenge.

"Taking all factors into consideration, Bolton Wanderers Football Club has reluctantly agreed to allow the player to leave the club with immediate effect to pursue his ambitions."

Reports in the United Kingdom and Australia have suggested that Le Fondre's destination is A-League side Sydney FC.
