Neven Subotic operation "successful"

Borussia Dortmund confirm that Neven Subotic had successful surgery to reconstruct torn cruciate knee ligaments earlier this week.

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Neven Subotic had an operation to rebuild a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee earlier this week, describing the half-hour procedure as a success.

Subotic was ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering damage to both his posterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament during last weekend's defeat at Wolfsburg in a challenge with Ivica Olic.

Dortmund used their official website to inform fans that Subotic underwent surgery to repair the posterior cruciate on Wednesday, but may need another operation early in 2014 on a slow road to recovery.

A short statement read: "Neven Subotic has undergone surgery on Wednesday successfully and without complications in the hospital at the Isar Park in Plattling.

"Professor Michael Strobel reconstructed the inner band and the entire posterior capsule in a half-hour procedure at Borussia Dortmund.

"In two months, it can be decided whether the almost completely torn posterior cruciate ligament must also be operated on."

Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp must now decide whether to bring in cover for the injured Subotic, with Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Mats Hummels currently the club's only fit senior central defenders.
