Strong second half sees Borussia Dortmund beat Mainz 05

Borussia Dortmund beat Mainz 05 3-1 away in the Bundesliga after a frantic final 20 minutes.

After a goalless first half, Borussia Dortmund have beaten Mainz 05 3-1 to return to winning ways in the Bundesliga.

It was a slow start to the game although Dortmund were seeing much more of the ball, as Jakub Blaszczykowski was brought down a couple of times early on.

The hosts started to come into the game and had an effort from range by Johannes Geis, but it was straight at Roman Weidenfeller.

Shinji Okazaki and then Elkin Soto both came close as Mainz started to ramp up the pressure mid-way through the half.

All shots were coming from outside the box and the first half, which lacked anything in the way of a cutting edge, ended goalless.

In a frantic final 20 minutes, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring before Maxim Choupo-Moting equalised from the spot four minutes later.

Elkin Soto saw red for a foul in the box, which allowed Robert Lewandowski to score his own from the spot and he wrapped up the win late on with his second penalty.
