Granit Xhaka facing lengthy spell out with ankle injury

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka is expected to be sidelined for a lengthy period after sustaining a serious ankle problem.

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka is expected to be out of action for a lengthy spell after suffering a serious ankle injury.

The Swiss international damaged ligaments in his right ankle on Sunday during Monchengladbach's goalless draw with Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Xhaka was forced to play the final stages of the match with the injury after his team had used up all of their substitutions.

It is unclear how long the 22-year-old will be sidelined for, but the club has claimed that he will miss "upcoming games".

Xhaka has played in all 15 competitive matches for Monchengladbach this season.
