Borussia Monchengladbach release Roel Brouwers

Roel Brouwers will leave Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of the season following a nine-year stint with the Bundesliga outfit.

Borussia Monchengladbach have announced that they will not renew Roel Brouwers's current contract, which is due to expire at the end of the season.

The experienced defender has spent the previous nine years with Borussia, during which time he has amassed 209 appearances.

However, having started only four games this term, the decision has been taken to release the 34-year-old.

"This decision wasn't easy for any of us. Roel is a great sportsman who has given everything for Borussia in the last nine years," sporting director Max Eberl told the club's official website.

"He's become a fan favourite here as a result of his authentic style and his reliability. We're very grateful to him and wish him all the best for his future."

The Dutch centre-back has previously played for Roda JC and SC Paderborn 07.
