Steve McClaren backs Eddie Howe to become future England manager

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren believes that Eddie Howe could be named England manager one day.

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren has claimed that Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is good enough to be England boss in the future.

Howe guided the Cherries to Premier League promotion for the first time in the club's history by winning the Championship last season.

McClaren, who has managed to win just one game with Newcastle out of 11 league fixtures this season, was England boss for one year from 2006 to 2007.

"We've got a tough away game but if we perform well we've got a chance," McClaren said in today's press conference. "This is an opportunity for us, but Bournemouth will also be saying the same. We've got to make sure we're focused and ready.

"I have the greatest respect for Eddie Howe. How he's got Bournemouth up is remarkable and he could be a future England manager."

Newcastle are 18th in the table, one point below Bournemouth.
