Bournemouth reportedly reach an agreement to sign French midfielder Romain Faivre from Ligue 1 side Lyon.

Bournemouth have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Romain Faivre from Lyon.

Faivre spent the second half of last season at Ligue 1 side Lorient where he registered five goals and three assists in 17 appearances.

The Cherries were impressed with Faivre's performances at Lorient, and those eye-catching displays have persuaded them to pursue a transfer.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bournemouth have reached an agreement with Lyon for a deal worth a total of €15m (£12.8m).

The Cherries have already decided to send Faivre back to Lorient for a second loan spell due to the close links between the two clubs.

Bournemouth owner Bill Foley, who completed a £150m takeover of the Premier League club in December, is a minority shareholder at Lorient after purchasing a 33% stake earlier this year.

As a result, Bournemouth will be able to keep a close eye on Faivre's progress before he returns to the club ahead of the 2024-25 season.

When he does arrive on the South coast, Faivre will offer versatility due to his experience of playing in central and attacking midfield as well as in wide areas.

After making just four senior appearances for Monaco, Faivre joined fellow French side Brest in the summer of 2020.

The 24-year-old scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in 59 appearances for Brest, with his performances earning him a move to Lyon in January 2022.

Faivre featured in 28 competitive games for Les Gones, but he found it difficult to nail down a regular place in the side.

However, the former France Under-21 international was able to enjoy regular playing time at Lorient, starting 14 out of a possible 16 league matches to help the club finish in 10th place - their best Ligue 1 finish in nine years.
