Adam Smith signs new four-year deal with Bournemouth

Bournemouth right-back Adam Smith signs a new four-year contract at the Premier League club.

Bournemouth right-back Adam Smith has put pen to paper on a new four-year contract at the Goldsands Stadium.

The 25-year-old has committed himself to the club until 2020 after initially joining the south coast outfit on a permanent deal in 2014 from Tottenham Hotspur.

Smith helped the Cherries retain their Premier League status in their debut season in the top flight as he appeared 22 times in Eddie Howe's team and scored two goals.

"Of course I was happy to sign," Smith told the club's official website. "The club have given me a long contract which shows that they want me for the long run, so I am glad that I can see my future at Bournemouth for a long time. I am settled down here, I get along with all of the lads and the gaffer knows me really well, so it was a no-brainer really.

"I feel I've done well this season, but I definitely think there is more to come from me next year. There will be competition for places in the squad, but I want get into the starting line-up and keep my place there.

"I think it's important that the club can keep everyone together, as well. We have a great team spirit here and if we can keep everyone then I am sure we can achieve great things together."

Chief executive Neill Blake said: "It's great to be able to reward Adam with this new deal. He has shown this year just how important he can be for us, and we believe there is still plenty more to come from him.

"I am sure he will continue to be a crucial part of our side as we begin to prepare for our second season in the Premier League."

Bournemouth finished 16th in the league table.
