Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis "delighted" despite Bradford City defeat

Steve Davis reveals that he is "delighted" with his Crewe Alexandra side despite their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bradford City.

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has revealed that he was "delighted" with his side's effort despite their 2-0 defeat to Bradford City this afternoon.

The result leaves Crewe anchored to the bottom of League One, but Davis insists his team can bounce back.

"I can't fault anyone, I was delighted with the effort and that's all I can ask for. We showed resolve and that gives us a lot of hope," Davis told the Crewe Chronicle.

"We kept strong last season and we got out of it, we'll have got some confidence from today and I have to try to lead the team out of this situation.

"We were much better, for the most part we performed better defensively. We had to give ourselves a chance second half so we made the change for the second half, I wanted us to do better on the ball."

Crewe conceded twice in two minutes to hand victory to Bradford at Valley Parade, but Davis refused to lay the blame at the feet of his players.

"We worked extremely hard to get something from the game, but again it is two quick goals which we have seen before. It looked like they were running out of ideas but then it was a cross and a goal.

"It is not a time for blaming players it is a time for working hard. If we can continue working like that we'll do much better.

"Confidence can easily waver but we kept going and we had a couple of chances - it was better and that is a positive."

Crewe return to League One action when they host Coventry City next Saturday.
