Maicon relishing Dani Alves right-back battle

Maicon says that Brazil will benefit most from his personal battle with Dani Alves for a starting spot in the country's World Cup squad.

Brazil defender Maicon has expressed his belief that the national team will benefit most from his personal battle with Dani Alves for a starting spot at the World Cup.

The 32-year-old, who has enjoyed a strong season with Roma in Serie A, is in direct competition with Alves for a place at right-back.

"Myself and Dani look to give our best, but it is the team who gains from this," Maicon is quoted as saying by Goal.com.

"Having two good players for the position is positive. Whoever [Luiz Felipe Scolari] chooses will give his best to represent Brazil in the best possible manner."

The Selecao get the World Cup underway in 12 days' time when they take on Croatia.
