Pele hoping Brazil avoid Spain at the World Cup

Brazil legend Pele hopes to avoid playing Spain at this summer's World Cup.

Brazil legend Pele is hoping that La Selecao avoid Spain at this summer's World Cup.

Luiz Felipe Scolari's side meet Croatia, Mexico and Cameroon in Group A, and despite beating the reigning world and European champions in last summer's Confederations Cup final, the three-time World Cup winner is hoping to sidestep another meeting with La Roja.

He told GQ magazine: "The most important thing for Brazil is that they don't meet Spain. They're a fantastic team to watch, are very organised and don't have a weak point.

"The only good thing about Spain from our perspective is that they play a clean game. They like to play and allow the other side to play and that's important for a team like Brazil. Spain are a side who play modern football.

"The Spanish have the same way of finding space and playing the ball."

Brazil begin next month's event with the opening game against Croatia on June 12.
