Brentford thank outgoing manager Mark Warburton

Brentford owner Matthew Benham and Cliff Crown place on record their thanks to departing manager Mark Warburton.

Brentford owner Matthew Benham has thanked departing manager Mark Warburton for the job he has done with the Bees.

Warburton is leaving the club despite guiding them to the Championship playoffs in their first second-tier season in 21 years because of a disagreement over how the club should be run.

Benham wants to implement a head coach-sporting director model which would limit Warburton's say on transfers, and today is the latter's final day at the club.

In a statement on their website, Bees owner Benham and chairman Cliff Crown both sang the praises of Warburton.

Benham said: "We have worked closely together over the past four years and he has helped build what we now have at Brentford. His legacy will be the squad that got us so close to the Premier League and a back-room structure that gives us a firm foundation.

"[Assistant manager] David Weir has also played a very important role and I would like to thank him too for all his work. I wish both Mark and David all the best for the future."

Excelsior boss Marinus Dijkhuizen is reportedly the man who will become the Bees' head coach.
