Brentford's Alan McCormack suspended for five games by the FA

Brentford midfielder Alan McCormack is suspended for five games by the FA for using "abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official".

The Football Association has announced that Brentford midfielder Alan McCormack has been suspended for five games after being found guilty of misconduct.

The 32-year-old has been punished for using "abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official" in the second half of the Bees' 2-1 victory over Cardiff City in April last season.

A statement from the FA read: "It was further alleged that this breach was an 'aggravated breach' as defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included a reference to gender.

"The player denied the charge, however, it was found proven following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Thursday [October 20, 2016]."

McCormack, who was also fined £6,000 and ordered to attend an education course, will miss games against Barnsley, Queens Park Rangers, Fulham, Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City.
