Brighton & Hove Albion confirm that Cameroon defender Gaetan Bong has signed a contract extension at the Amex Stadium until 2019.

Brighton & Hove Albion defender Gaetan Bong has signed a contract extension at the Amex Stadium until 2019.

The 29-year-old joined the Seagulls from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2015 and has since made 52 league appearances, with 15 of those this term in the Premier League.

Bong's contract was due to expire in the summer but the Brighton board have opted to offer the Cameroon international a new deal following his exploits in both the Championship and the top flight.

"I am delighted for Gaetan," Hughton told the official Seagulls website. "He is a key member of the squad, and he has worked really hard to earn this new contract with the club.

"He has proved himself to be a consistent performer for us in the Premier League so far this season, and acquitted himself really well stepping up from the Championship."

Bong, who won the Greek league title in 2014 with Olympiacos, has made 13 appearances for the Cameroon national team.
