Steve Cotterill baffled by Bristol City draw

Steve Cotterill claims that Bristol City "absolutely battered" Gillingham in their 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate.

Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill says he cannot understand how his team failed to beat Gillingham at Ashton Gate this afternoon.

The Robins retained an 11-point lead over Preston North End at the top of League One, but were forced to settle for a point against the Gills despite having 17 attempts at goal.

Cotterill is adamant that City were the only team that looked like winning the match.

He is quoted by the club's official Twitter feed as saying: "God knows how it didn't go in. How we didn't win by four or five, I don't know. We can't begrudge Gillingham too much because we've beaten them three times already.

"We were magnificent today. We absolutely battered them. There was only one team in the game.

"I felt we needed to up the tempo after half-time but that comes with trying to find some energy."

Bristol can return to winning ways when they host Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday evening.
