Nigel Clough to return to Burton Albion?

Nigel Clough agrees a deal in principle to make a surprise return to the dugout at Burton Albion, according to reports.

Nigel Clough has reportedly agreed a deal in principle to make a return to former club Burton Albion.

On Friday, it was announced that Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink had left the dugout at the League One leaders to move to Queens Park Rangers, leaving Burton to search for a new manager ahead of their fixture with Gillingham next Saturday.

According to Sky Sports News, the Staffordshire outfit have wasted little time in making a move for Clough, who has been without a job since leaving Sheffield United in May.

It is being reported that discussions over Clough's backroom staff are taking place, but if terms can be agreed, he is expected to be appointed as manager of the Brewers for the second time.

Clough previously held the position between 1998 and 2009 as he took Burton through non-League to League Two, taking charge of 709 matches during his decade at the club.
