Russell Slade: 'I alone will pick Cardiff City team'

New Cardiff City manager Russell Slade is confident that he will be allowed to have full control of the team.

New Cardiff City boss Russell Slade has insisted that club owner Vincent Tan will not tamper with his team selection.

Slade was finally confirmed as the new Cardiff manager last night after a lengthy dispute between the Bluebirds and Slade's old club Leyton Orient.

The 53-year-old is confident that he can have a good relationship with Tan, who has reportedly interfered with team affairs in the past.

"There's a big budget here and [Tan] has put a lot of money into it," PA quotes Slade as saying.

"He wants that work ethic and honesty on the pitch and I'm hoping together we can provide that and a way forward for the club.

"Of course, he's the owner and he's entitled to an opinion on the playing side, but it will be me that's picking the team."

Malaysian businessman Tan has also echoed Slade's words and stressed that Slade will have complete control of the team.

Slade's first two matches in charge will come in quick succession after the international break and both come at home against sides currently in the top six - Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town - on October 18 and 21.
