Keith Curle: 'Each Carlisle United player desperate to play games'

Carlisle United manager Keith Curle admits that he currently has a selection headache due to the number of players battling to earn a starting spot.

Keith Curle has praised the hunger in his Carlisle United squad after seeing his side advance through to the second round of the FA Cup.

The Cumbrians beat League Two high-flyers Plymouth Argyle 2-0 at Home Park to make it just one defeat in their last five outings.

Curle was quick to hail the strong set of options available to him, admitting that he now has a big decision to make when it comes to naming his starting lineup for the trip to Bristol Rovers next weekend.

"The good thing I have at the moment is a squad of players who are all desperate to play," he told the club's official website. "I want to be in a position where I have headaches, not just for the starting eleven, and at the moment it's a struggle to get it down to 18 for a Saturday.

"I've said it before, but that's because of the way we've recruited and the strength we've managed to build into the squad. They all know that just because someone plays well in a game it doesn't mean there's a natural selection process that means they'll play in the next one.

"We look at everything from the way they train during the week to the opposition we're going to play. If I feel any of these lads aren't ready for any reason we have others who can step in. If we see other things in what someone else can bring to the mix we're brave enough to make that decision."

Carlisle, in the hat for tonight's second-round draw, find themselves outside the League Two playoff zone on goal difference alone.
