Catania earn vital win against Bologna

Catania improve their chances of avoiding relegation after beating Bologna 2-0 in their Serie A match at the Stadio Angelo Massimino.

Catania have beaten Bologna 2-0 in their Serie A meeting at the Stadio Angelo Massimino.

Gonzalo Bergessio gave the home side the lead in the 23rd minute after heading Francesco Lodi's free kick into the net.

They came close to scoring a second through Mariano Izco, however, the midfielder fired his free kick against the post.

Catania were given the chance to add to their lead after Archimede Morleo handled the ball inside the box and Lodi stepped up to place the penalty into the back of the net.

Pablo Barrientos had a great opportunity to score a third goal for his team, but he saw his close-range strike come back off the post.

Catania wasted another chance late on when Bergessio fired wide, but they held on to their lead and earned a vital win in their battle against relegation.
