Half-Time Report: Paul Heffernan puts Hibernian ahead

Paul Heffernan gives Hibernian the lead at home to Celtic.

Paul Heffernan's 18th-minute goal was enough to give Hibernian the lead at half time against champions Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

Poor defending from Neil Lennon's side led to Heffernan being one on one with Fraser Forster and his shot went through the Hoops keeper.

The visitors could have been ahead minutes earlier when Finnish striker Teemu Pukki found Kris Commons whose 25-yard effort was inches wide of the post.

Commons nearly bagged an equaliser midway through the half as he latched on to Virgil van Dijk's long ball over the top, but his attempted lob ended up on the roof of the net.

Pukki arguably had the best chance to level for Celtic as he rounded keeper Ben Williams and tried to place his effort only for a last-ditch block from Ryan McGivern.

Celtic started the game in top spot in the league while Hibs are third in the table, five points further behind.
