Preview: Charlton Athletic vs. Norwich City

Sports Mole previews the Championship clash between Charlton Athletic and Norwich City at The Valley.

Charlton Athletic will be looking to end a 12-game run without a win to quell their relegation fears when they take on Norwich City at The Valley.

The Addicks lost their eighth game of the season to Middlesbrough in their 3-1 defeat at Riverside Stadium on Saturday, but worryingly for Guy Luzon's side five of their eight losses have come in their last seven matches.

Another big problem has been a failure to convert their draws into wins this season, as they have played out 15 stalemates, the most in the Championship.

Luzon's team are also one of the lowest scorers in the league as they have netted just 26 times in 29 matches, and have scored just twice in the calendar year, while top scorer Igor Vetokele has failed to find the net since November.

Charlton have been decent at The Valley in the Championship this season as 20 of their 33 points have come at home. However, their last win came back in October, highlighting the importance of the clash against the Canaries, whom they beat at Carrow Road earlier in the campaign.

Luzon will be without Milos Veljkovic for the match as he sustained a shoulder injury during the 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough.

Roger Johnson could be handed a debut at the back after he joined the club on a short-team deal, while Johnnie Jackson could also return to the starting lineup after recovering from a calf injury.

Norwich got their surge for a place in the playoffs back on track, after a two-game winless run, courtesy of a 4-0 win over struggling Blackpool as Gary Hooper notched a hat-trick at Carrow Road.

The Canaries have lost just once in the five games since Alex Neil took charge of the club last month in a run of form which has also included three victories, which has left them three points behind sixth-placed Watford.

Neil's side have kept clean sheets in their last two games, which they achieved for just the second time this season as they have managed to find consistency at the back at the right time in the campaign.

Meanwhile, Hooper has notched five goals in his last five games, after scoring just four goals in the first five months of the season.

An injury to defender Sebastien Bassong could lead to one change for Neil after the Frenchman sustained a back problem in the win over the Tangerines, but other than the Scot is likely to field an unchanged lineup for the match.
