Shola Ameobi fails to earn Charlton Athletic contract?

Charlton Athletic reportedly become the fifth Championship club to turn down the chance to sign former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi.

Charlton Athletic have reportedly decided against offering Shola Ameobi a contract at The Valley.

The Addicks are believed to be the fifth Championship side that the 34-year-old has spent time with, having failed to earn himself terms at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town and Bolton Wanderers.

According to the Daily Mail, Ameobi has now suffered a similar fate at Charlton, who were not convinced during the striker's trial period at the club.

The former Newcastle United frontman has been a free agent since the end of last season when he was released by Crystal Palace.
