UEFA are set to scrap the Champions League anthem this week for British-based clubs as a mark of respect to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

UEFA are expected to scrap the Champions League anthem for games involving British clubs this week.

Football across the United Kingdom was postponed at the weekend as a mark of respect to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

However, six British-based clubs will be involved in Champions League action in midweek, including Liverpool, Rangers, Chelsea and Manchester City, who will all be playing at home.

According to The Telegraph, UEFA have decided against playing the Champions League anthem ahead of the games involving British sides as a mark of respect to The Queen.

While a number of British clubs will be in European action this week, Arsenal's Europa League meeting with PSV Eindhoven has been postponed due to limitations on police resources.

Meanwhile, the stretched resources due to The Queen's funeral, which takes place on Monday, has also resulted in the postponement of Manchester United's Premier League meeting with Leeds United and Liverpool's away encounter against Chelsea.
