Guus Hiddink talks up Ruben Loftus-Cheek potential

Interim Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink praises Ruben Loftus-Cheek after the youngster fired the Blues into the fourth round of the FA Cup with his first goal for the club.

Interim Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has talked up the potential and versatility of Ruben Loftus-Cheek following his first goal for the club.

The 19-year-old opened his account for Chelsea with the second goal in their 2-0 FA Cup victory over Scunthorpe United this afternoon, finally taking the match beyond the League One outfit.

Loftus-Cheek has also been tipped to have a bright future by former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, but Hiddink warned that he must be willing to put in the hard yards if he is to fulfil his potential.

"Ruben came in and he had a beautiful goal, not just in the execution but the way he prepared himself, and that was good to see," Hiddink told reporters.

"He can play on either side, but it depends how you play. He can also play when you play two controlling midfield players and one high on the midfield, he can play up there.

"But it's important he also has a hard-working role. And if you play number 10 it's a role where you can maybe get away without so much hard work, but that's not what we want."

Loftus-Cheek has now made seven appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season.
