Chelsea lead Blackburn Rovers 2-0 at the interval of their Premier League encounter.
It was Blackburn who had the first real chance of the match after five minutes courtesy of a strike from Jason Lowe, but Ross Turnbull cleared the danger.
Chelsea advanced immediately down the other end, however, but Daniel Sturridge's effort cleared the bar when he might have done better.
Romelu Lukaku was next to come close for the home side with a header after 10 minutes, but it just drifted wide of the post.
Blackburn were not without their chances, however, and Morten Gamst Pedersen fired a free kick wide after 16 minutes.
Sturridge again came close with an effort after 22 minutes, but Jake Kean collected the ball with relative ease, before the striker headed wide moments later.
Raul Meireles was next to come close with an effort just before the 30-minute mark, but Kean was on hand to make the save.
Chelsea did take the lead, however, after 31 minutes when John Terry headed home a corner, and it was quickly two when Meireles struck from close range after 34 minutes.
It remained that way until the interval, with Chelsea entering the break with a comfortable lead.
