Sam Allardyce hits out at 'disgraceful' Chelsea critics

Sam Allardyce insists that Chelsea will be worthy winners of the Premier League this season, despite criticism aimed in their direction in recent weeks.

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce believes that it is an "insult" and a "disgrace" to describe Chelsea's style of play as boring.

The Blues have stormed 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, although some believe that Jose Mourinho's side have produced a string of bland displays in recent weeks.

Following their goalless draw against Arsenal last weekend, the Emirates Stadium crowd serenaded the visiting players with chants of "boring, boring Chelsea", although Allardyce insists that those opposition supporters are well wide of the mark.

"Chelsea should be crowned champions after their match against Crystal Palace on Sunday - and no-one can say they do not deserve it," the Hammers boss wrote in his London Evening Standard column. "Sad then to hear the groundless accusation following their goalless draw at Arsenal that Jose Mourinho's team are boring.

"To accuse Chelsea of playing tedious football is not only totally inaccurate - it's an insult. Boring? Do me a favour. Last Sunday was the first time this season that Arsenal, a team who are back in the ascendancy, have failed to score at home in the Premier League.

"At the end of that match you could see what the result meant to the Chelsea players — they understood what a giant step that point was towards the title. As far as I am concerned, as a Premier League manager, it is a disgrace to call a team like Chelsea boring."

Chelsea's 3-1 win over Leicester City on Wednesday night made it 14 league games unbeaten in their pursuit of a first title since 2010.
