Terry Butcher says that Rafa Benitez's claim that Chelsea can become champions is "ludicrous".

Terry Butcher has declared Rafa Benitez's claim that Chelsea can win the Premier League is "ludicrous".

The Spaniard, who took over as Chelsea's interim manager until the end of the season last week, said that the side he inherited was good enough to become champions.

However, former England captain Butcher has rubbished the suggestion.

"Rafa insisted Chelsea could still win the Premier League, even though his team failed to score in his first two games," he said in his column in The Mirror.

"The only chance for Benitez to justify this ludicrous claim is to replace [Fernando] Torres. But that's never going to happen... is it Roman [Abramovich]?"

Chelsea have not won in three games since Benitez took over and were beaten 3-1 by West Ham United on Saturday.
