Chelsea's Gary Cahill: 'New three-man defence takes some getting used to'

Gary Cahill says that Chelsea's new defensive shape takes some "getting used to" after the team ended a three-game winless run with a 2-0 victory over Hull City.

Gary Cahill has claimed that it has taken him some time to get used to Chelsea's new three-man defensive setup.

The England international, whose performances have been criticised of late, was selected this afternoon by manager Antonio Conte to play alongside David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta in defence, with Marcos Alonso and Willian as wing-backs.

After suffering back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League, Chelsea got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Hull City at the KCOM Stadium.

When asked about the new defensive shape, Cahill told BBC Sport: "It is different doing it on the training pitch than in the game situations. It took some getting used to, you don't get used to it overnight.

"But in the second half we weren't really threatened. We go into the international break with three points and a good feeling."

Chelsea are sixth in the league table.
