Chelsea defender Gary Cahill believes that the club should be pleased with the way they finished the season.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has expressed his belief that the club should be pleased with the way they ended the season.

The Blues finished third in the Premier League and won the Europa League, despite changing their manager from Roberto Di Matteo to Rafael Benitez midway through the campaign.

Cahill has said that it was important for the Stamford Bridge outfit to win a trophy.

"I think you have to say we finished strongly," Cahill told the club's official website.

"We got the third position we were aiming for and achieved what we wanted there, and we finished with a trophy. We had ups and downs but like last year we finished well and we can be pleased.

"You've got to judge it by where you are in the league at certain stages. At three quarters of the way we were looking for third and we managed to achieve that. After we went out of the FA Cup we had one trophy left and it was important to pick up some silverware."

Chelsea are currently on a post-season tour of the USA, where they will play two friendly matches against Manchester City.
