Chelsea allegedly received 'less than 10 serious bids' before Friday's deadline, despite widespread speculation regarding the interest in the Premier League club.

Less than 10 serious bids were reportedly made for Chelsea before Friday's deadline to identify potential candidates to replace Roman Abramovich.

With sanctions having been imposed on Abramovich and the Premier League club, all parties are keen for a quick sale, which is being overseen by Raine Group and must meet government approval.

Earlier this week, it was claimed that a shortlist of preferred bidders could be compiled by Tuesday, claims which are supported by CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.

However, it appears that the final deliberations, which are also said to include Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck, could rumble on until Thursday.

Furthermore, it is suggested that the Ricketts Family, owners of MLB side the Chicago Cubs, are confident of being one of the names who remain in the running to complete a takeover.

With Chelsea not back in action until April 2, there is hope that one preferred bidder can be identified before that date.
