Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg will reportedly learn by the end of the week whether he will face action for allegedly using "inappropriate language" when speaking to Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.

Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg will reportedly learn this week whether he will face action following Chelsea's complaint to the Football Association.

The Champions League winners have accused the 37-year-old of using "inappropriate language" when speaking to midfielder John Obi Mikel during the Blues' 3-2 defeat to Manchester United last month.

Since then, the English governing body have been investigating the claims and it is believed that a decision regarding a possible charge against Clattenburg will be made by the end of the week, according to PA Sport.

It is believed that the alleged language used was of a racial nature, with some reports claiming that Clattenburg referred to Mikel as a "monkey".
