Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo is confident that his former colleague Andre Villas-Boas will be a success at Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has given his support to Andre Villas-Boas, who begins a new career in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 34-year-old Portuguese coach was appointed as Harry Redknapp's successor yesterday and will return to management for the first time since getting sacked from Stamford Bridge after nine months in charge.

Di Matteo, who was Villas-Boas's assistant coach with the Blues during his brief tenure, will meet his former colleague as Chelsea's new permanent manager on the touchline during the season.

"I wish him the best of luck," Di Matteo said in a press conference. "He's a very good manager and I'm sure he'll be a success at Spurs."

Di Matteo replaced Villas-Boas as Chelsea's full-time manager after leading them to FA Cup and Champions League glory.
