Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo believes that Frank Lampard can play for the club well into his late thirties.

Di Matteo revealed that talks have already begun to give the 33-year-old a new contract.

He said: "I want him for a long time, well into his late thirties. Frank has been very influential at Chelsea over the years. He is very influential within the squad.

"I hope the talks will have a successful conclusion. I have given my recommendation then it is down to the board.

"Frank is a very important player for us. Can I give guarantees about an older player? Yes, he can play an integral part this season."

Lampard has less than 12 months left on his current deal and has previously stated his desire to finish his career at Stamford Bridge.
