Chris Hughton admits that he wanted to bring Tammy Abraham to Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer but has no regrets about missing out on the young striker's signature.

Chris Hughton has admitted that Brighton & Hove Albion wanted to sign Tammy Abraham in the summer, but has no regrets about missing out on the striker's signature.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Swansea City from Chelsea and has scored five goals in 13 appearances for his current club.

On Thursday, Abraham was named in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the first time, and Hughton insists that the forward deserves credit for his call-up.

"Yes, we did have an interest in him but these things happen," Hughton told reporters ahead of this weekend's Premier League trip to Swansea. "It's not frustrating. We were not the only club that had an interest in him.

"What you do want to see is young players doing well, although we don't particularly want to see him doing well on Saturday. He's had an opportunity, played games, and obviously shown enough to get a first call-up. Credit to him."

Brighton currently sit 12th in the Premier League table, while Swansea are in 17th place.
