John Terry hopes Community Shield defeat will lift Chelsea

Chelsea's loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield could act as a "boost" before the Premier League season begins, claims captain John Terry.

Chelsea captain John Terry has claimed that their Community Shield defeat to Arsenal may act as a wake-up call ahead of the new season.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored the only goal of the game as Arsene Wenger finally beat a team managed by Jose Mourinho, and Terry admits that the loss hurt.

He is quoted as saying by The Guardian: "It was a different atmosphere in the dressing room afterwards. We haven't lost many at Wembley. With that in mind, it's maybe the boost we needed and we go again for the season.

"It could be a blessing in disguise for us – a wake-up call. We have experience in the squad. We have the character. It's going to be even tougher this year."

Chelsea start the defence of their Premier League title against Swansea City.
