David Luiz has backed Ande Villas-Boas as Chelsea manager, saying that he "believes" in the work that the Portuguese boss is doing.

Villas-Boas has come under increasing pressure recently and he admitted in a radio interview that he is unsure of his fate at the Stamford Bridge helm.

"I believe in the work the manager is doing," Luiz said. "When the moment is not good the first person people will criticise is the manager. And then people will criticise the players if they don't like the player.

"People in football get criticised, this is football. But when Chelsea win, the same people who criticise Chelsea will say, 'Chelsea are great'.

"So for me this is normal. I believe in the job Andre is doing. And in the future we will have success at Chelsea."

Chelsea are currently fifth in the Premier League, 17 points adrift of leaders Manchester City.
