David Luiz admits that he enjoyed a rare match in central midfield against Monterrey and is open to making the change permanent.

Chelsea defender David Luiz has refused to rule out a future midfield role after playing alongside John Obi Mikel against Monterrey on Thursday.

Blues boss Rafael Benitez decided to deploy Luiz in central midfield for the Club World Cup semi-final, and Luiz admits that he enjoyed the change of position.

He told FIFA.com: "Since the manager arrived he's been talking about playing me there if the opportunity came up.

"He spoke to me in the team talk and we decided to do it for that game. I was happy with the result, about getting through to a big final, and with my performance as well.

"It was Rafa's decision to make the change for this game. He wanted me to play in a more advanced position and I was delighted with my contribution to the team and with our overall performance too."

Brazilian international Luiz comes up against a team from his native country on Sunday when the Blues face Corinthians in Yokohama, Japan.
