Roberto Mancini believes Mark Clattenburg's decision not to award Man City a first-half penalty was the turning point in their 2-1 loss against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini was left frustrated with referee Mark Clattenburg after their 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tonight, which ended their unbeaten start to the Premier League.

Clattenburg awarded Chelsea a late penalty and sent off Gael Clichy but turned down first-half appeals for a City spot kick when Jose Bosingwa appeared to foul David Silva in the box.

"The turning point was the penalty in the first half because the referee was there," said Mancini.

"He was really sure in the second half when they shoot from five metres to Lescott but in the first half he was three metres behind Silva and did not give a penalty.

"This decision changed the game."

The Citizens remain top of the table but are now only two points clear of rivals Manchester United and seven clear of Chelsea, who climbed to third with the win.
