Late goals help Chelsea past Norwich City

Late goals from Eden Hazard and Willian see Chelsea edge out Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Two quickfire goals in the final 10 minutes from Eden Hazard and Willian saw Chelsea edge out Norwich City at Carrow Road in the Premier League.

The Blues took the lead after just three minutes when Demba Ba brought down a ball over the top before rolling back for Oscar, who accurately found the bottom corner with the outside of his boot.

Ba, who was chosen to start up front ahead of Samuel Eto'o, then came close twice, first testing John Ruddy with a shot from a narrow angle and then capitalising on a mistake from the Norwich keeper but failing to find the net as Sebastien Bassong got back to clear.

The Canaries' first real chance of the match came midway through the opening period when Ricky van Wolfswinkel's driven cross was turned over by Petr Cech with Jonny Howson ready to tap in.

Moments into the second half Chelsea could have been two ahead when Ramires's low cross found Ba, who failed to get enough of the ball to hit the target.

Brazilian midfielder Ramires was then involved at the other end as he challenged Anthony Pilkington in the area. The Norwich players screamed for a penalty but referee Neil Swarbrick waved away the appeals.

Just before the hour mark Norwich almost equalised when Van Wolfswinkel used his chest to lift the ball over Cech but wide of the goal.

Oscar lashed wide soon after and the miss will have hurt the Brazilian even more as Norwich levelled in moments later.

Van Wolfswinkel got up well and nodded the ball down to Pilkington, who held off the challenge of Luiz before finding the net.

Ruddy and Cech made saves to deny Branislav Ivanovic and Nathan Redmond before the visitors retook the lead with five minutes left.

Substitute Eden Hazard capitalised on Alexander Tettey's heavy touch and fired at goal where Ruddy allowed the ball to squeeze in.

Seconds later the win was sealed when Willian scored his first Premier League goal with a curling effort into the top corner from 20 yards.

Three points for Jose Mourinho's side move them up to third, while Norwich drop to 17th.
