Atletico Madrid president refuses to rule out Fernando Torres return

President Enrique Cerezo suggests that Atletico Madrid are looking to re-sign Chelsea striker Fernando Torres.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has hinted that the club are in talks to re-sign Fernando Torres.

The 30-year-old rose through the ranks at the Vicente Calderon, making 244 appearances for the club before he departed for Liverpool in 2007.

He then transferred to Chelsea in January 2011 for £50m, but he failed to recapture the clinical touch that he had displayed earlier in his career and he was loaned out to AC Milan at the start of the season.

However, having scored just once in Serie A so far, it has been suggested that Milan will cancel their agreement with Chelsea next month.

That speculation had resulted in reports that Atletico were keen to offer Torres a return to Spain and when asked about those rumours, Cerezo refused to dismiss them.

"The signing of Torres is not [completed], but that does not mean it will not be," he told TVE.

"We have a great team, but we can bring in a signing until the last hour of the transfer market. We will fight for La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey in 2015."

Torres scored 91 goals during his first stint with Atletico.
