Everton boss Roberto Martinez warns Chelsea over 'priceless' John Stones

Roberto Martinez says that young Everton defender John Stones is staying at Goodison Park despite intense speculation linking him with Chelsea.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has reiterated his stance on Chelsea target John Stones and told the Blues that "money can sometimes not buy everything".

The 21-year-old is poised to hand in a transfer request amid speculation linking him with a move to the West Londoners, who have reportedly prepared a £40m bid - their fourth attempt at prising him away from Goodison Park this summer.

Stones started tonight's second-round League Cup victory at Barnsley, and Martinez says that the young defender is a "massive part" of the project that he is trying to build on Merseyside.

"Our fans know all we are doing is trying to become better and be as good as we can," the Spaniard is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"John is a massive part of that and we've got a clear idea that in life and in football money can sometimes not buy everything.

"This is about values and John is a vital part of our future."

Stones is contracted to the Toffees until 2019.
