Jose Mourinho: 'Frank Lampard can join whoever he wants'

Jose Mourinho insists that Frank Lampard will always be welcome at Chelsea, despite joining Manchester City on loan.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that Frank Lampard will always be welcome at the club, despite his loan move to Manchester City.

The 36-year-old ended his 13-year stay at Stamford Bridge by signing for new MLS side New York City on a free transfer last month, but he has since agreed to join Premier League champions City on a six-month loan deal.

Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has questioned the move, but Mourinho insists that Lampard is free to do as he wishes.

"He is a free agent, he can choose his club so there's no problem at all," he told reporters.

"When he comes to Stamford Bridge he is welcome."

The England international scored 211 goals in 649 matches for Chelsea.
