Chris Turner: 'Chesterfield don't have to sell'

Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner assures manager Dean Saunders that the club will not have to sell players this summer.

Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner has insisted that the club will not be forced to sell players this summer.

The League One side have already seen Gary Roberts and Jimmy Ryan leave the Proact Stadium since the end of last season, while the futures of Sam Clucas and Tendayi Darikwa are thought to be uncertain.

However, Turner has assured manager Dean Saunders that players will only be sold if the club is offered money that is too good to turn down.

"Dean has been very impressed with the squad he has inherited from Paul Cook," he told the club's official website. "He wants to keep the squad together and make it even stronger.

"Dean has assessed the squad in pre-season and he will identify areas he feels need to be strengthened.

"We are not looking to sell any of our players, as illustrated by the fact that we have turned down offers for three players over the summer. If we were actively looking to sell players, we would have accepted the bids we have received. We would only sell a player if we received an offer which was impossible to refuse."

Chesterfield start their League One campaign on August 8 at home to Barnsley.
